Medicare is a federal health insurance program in the United States primarily designed for individuals aged 65 and older, as well as certain younger individuals with disabilities or specific medical conditions.
Medicare Part A
(Hospital Insurance)
This covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care services. Most people do not have to pay a premium for Part A if they or their spouse paid Medicare taxes while working.
Medicare Part B
(Medical Insurance)
Part B covers services like doctor's visits, outpatient care, preventive services (such as screenings and vaccinations), durable medical equipment (like wheelchairs and walkers), and some home health care. Part B typically requires a monthly premium.
Medicare Part C
(Medicare Advantage)
these are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. Part C plans provide all of your Part A and Part B coverage and may offer additional benefits, such as vision, dental, and prescription drug coverage. They often include health maintenance organization (HMO) or preferred provider organization (PPO) networks.
Medicare Part D
(Prescription Drug Coverage)
Part D plans provide prescription drug coverage. These plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. They help cover the cost of prescription drugs, and you typically pay a monthly premium, deductible, copayments, and/or coinsurance.
Medicare also allows for supplemental coverage, often called Medigap, which helps pay for some of the healthcare costs that Original Medicare doesn't cover, like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles
